Johnston, Spencer to represent OOIDA at conference
12/08/2003 - 2:18:16 pm
Two of OOIDA`s officers will represent the organization at the FMCSA`s Seatbelt Event in Atlanta this coming week.
Jim Johnston and Todd Spencer, president and executive vice president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, will team drive the organization`s truck, the Spirit of the American Trucker, from the organization`s Grain Valley, MO, headquarters to the conference location in Atlanta.
Johnston and Spencer both hold CDLs and are long-time truckers.
The conference takes place Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Roadway Express Facility, 2701 Moreland Ave. SE, Atlanta. It will feature U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta and Annette Sandberg, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, who recently spoke at the celebration of OOIDA`s 30th anniversary.
Increased seat belt usage is high on Sandberg`s agenda. A draft summary of the Atlanta event said “A focus will be on debunking the myths that because one drives a large truck (commercial or passenger vehicle), they do not have to wear their seat belt.”
