Truckers’ help sought in Kansas murder case
12/09/2003 - 1:42:03 pm

The family of a murdered Kansas woman is seeking help from truckers to find a man wanted for questioning in the case.

Alexandra “Ali” Kemp, 19, was murdered June 18, 2002, between 3 and 5 p.m. in the pump room of the swimming pool where she worked, near 123rd and State Line Road in Leawood, KS, across the street from Leawood Plaza shopping center. Leawood is a suburb of Kansas City, MO, that sits along the Missouri-Kansas border in the south part of the metropolitan area. Interstate 435 bisects the town.

The suspect is a white male in his mid-30s, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet in height, heavyset and has short brown hair. He was possibly wearing blue clothing that may have been coveralls, or a blue shirt and pants.

Authorities also think a 1980s tan Ford pickup truck may be involved in this case. The suspect was seen driving away in a similar truck. A blue truck was also mentioned.

The suspect may have been a laborer working in the area. A man matching the description was seen the day prior to the crime lurking in the bushes near the pool with either a camera or binoculars.

Roger Kemp, Ali’s father, says he is seeking help from truckers because he knows truck drivers are more observant than most citizens and values their nationwide network of contacts. He recalled a caring trucker, whose name he can’t remember, distributing flyers of the suspect soon after Kemp’s daughter was murdered. He says it’s people like this trucker who will help solve his daughter’s murder.

Ali was a freshman at Kansas State University and a 2001 graduate of Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, KS.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to an arrest. If you have any information about this case, please call (816) 474-TIPS. Your identity will be protected
